Since opening their doors in 1996, Pacific mariner has concentrated on a single design "their 65 pilothouse cruiser - and after nine years they've already launched their fiftieth. The popularity of that yacht established a worthy precedent for the builder's newest design, an 85 pilothouse. Predictably enough, troy and Bonnie Ducharme emerged from the ranks of happy 65 owners to purchase hull number one in the new 85 series, christened Black Gold.

While available for viewing at the shows, getting a ride will require some patience. Or a trip to a Lexus dealer. Not because the new Pacific Mariner 85 is all that much like the newest Lexus, being some 60-odd feet longer and at least 14 feet wider than said luxury vehicle "but rather because after a test drive of the Lexus, you'll be amazed that the Pacific Mariner is quieter at cruise than the Lexus at 70 mph.
